At the Car Accident Scene

At the Car Accident Scene

The scene of an accident is a confusing and frustrating experience that no one ever hopes to experience. It’s hard to keep your thoughts in order and know what it is you should do, how you should act, and the correct process to follow so that you don’t do anything to jeopardize your well being. Believe it or not, the insurance adjuster will find the smallest action and turn it around to make it look like you are either not as injured as you say, or that you admited fault.

What to avoid:

  1. Avoid getting out of your car
  2. Avoid discussing the accident with ANYONE but the police. You do not owe an explaination to the other driver or witnesses. Anything you say can be used against you when deciding who was liable for the car accident. That is why it is so important to Not discuss the accident with anyone but the police.
  3. Do not apologize in any way. This can be used as admittance to fault.
  4. Do not move your vehicle. Make sure a police officer has seen how the vehicles are positioned before moving the vehicles. If possible, have the firefighter or police officer move your vehicle for you.
  5. Do not decline to be seen by a paramedic. You may be in shock and not aware that you are injured. If you decline to be checked out my a paramedic and 3 days later your back ends up in pain, your medical bills could be denied because you didn’t feel injured after the accident.
